Microneedling

Microneedling is also known as collagen induction therapy. It is a minimally invasive procedure that helps minimize the signs of aging by, rejuvenating aging or sun damaged skin. The microneedling device causes micro punctures to the skin that stimulates the body’s natural wound healing process. The injuries cause the release of cytokines and growth factors that lead to the remodeling of collagen and elastin. This process may be enhanced by the addition of PRP (please refer to the section on platelet rich plasma). The recovery from the procedure is very minimal as the procedure only results in a small degree of swelling and redness for 24 hours. The procedure is performed in the office setting with the use of topical anesthesia. Multiple treatments spaced at four week intervals may be needed until the desired results are obtained.
